Is Your Air Conditioner In Need Of Professional Repair?

Posted on: 1 February 2019

When it is hot outside, you want to ensure that your air conditioner is up to the task of keeping you, your family, and your home cool. Therefore, your AC needs to be able to function properly the entire warm weather season. To avoid extended air conditioner outages, it is crucial for the air conditioning system to undergo routine maintenance and receive timely repairs when necessary. To understand when you need to call an experienced HVAC service, here are three signs that professional repair is needed.

Sign #1: The AC Has a Weak Airflow

If you have noticed that the airflow from your air conditioning system has weakened, this may be an indication that there is an issue with the AC's blower motor. On the other hand, the problem could be a failing compressor. Prior to calling an HVAC service for potential repairs, check to ensure that the duct vents are not just clogged with dust or debris as this could potentially cause weakened airflow as well. If this is the problem, it would be a waste of a service call—and your money—since you can easily remedy the issue yourself with a dust brush.

Sign #2: The AC Isn't Blowing Out Cold Air

If the air conditioner isn't producing cold air, there could be a refrigerant leak somewhere. You can't just recharge the AC with Freon, as this won't work due to the fact that the refrigerant coils are a closed system. Instead, the leak needs to be found and repaired prior to additional Freon being added. Otherwise, the refrigerant will just leak out again, and you will be dealing with warm air blowing out of the AC yet again.

Sign #3: The AC Is Emitting Unpleasant Odors or Making Strange Noises

If you notice that your air conditioning unit is emitting foul odors or making strange sounds, then this warrants immediate attention from a professional. Rattling, squeaking, or grinding noises suggest that something just is not working properly. Musty smells tend to indicate that mold is present, while scorched rubber or plastic odors indicate that the insulation of wiring inside the unit has burned. It is imperative to contact a professional to inspect the reasoning behind these noises and smells so that they can be repaired as soon as possible.

Expanding Families Means Expanding Homes: Addition Building 101

When my wife and I found out we were expecting a baby, I knew that our small starter home wasn't going to be big enough for us to raise a family. We loved the house and the neighborhood though, so we didn't want to move. That's when I decided to just build an addition. From planning to construction, the process was kind of intimidating. I didn't know what to expect along the way, and that made it more difficult. I created this site to detail our experience with the construction of the addition. I hope it helps you to prepare for your next home construction project.
