Time For A New Bathroom: 3 Items To Include In Your Renovation

Posted on: 23 May 2016

If your bathroom no longer suits your needs, it might be time to consider a remodel. This is particularly true if your old look is outdated. Remodeling your bathroom can blow a breath of fresh air into your home. It can also increase the market value of your home, which is important if you're planning on selling in the near future. Now that it's time for a change, here are three new items you should include in your bathroom remodeling project.

Upgraded Drain Pipes

When you think of bathroom remodels, the first thing that pops into your mind might not be drain pipes – but it should be. Your drain pipes determine how well everything drains out of your bathroom, from the toilets and showers to the sinks. Drain pipes that are too small can get clogged quickly, which means you're going to be cleaning them out too often. Have your contractor inspect your pipes before you begin the remodeling. If your pipes are too small to work efficiently, have them upgraded before construction begins on your remodel.

Lighting Fixtures

If you haven't added new lighting fixtures to your bathroom remodel, you should. The right lighting can add a whole new look to your bathroom. When choosing the lighting for your bathroom, you should take into consideration who will be using it – and for what purposes. For instance, if you or a family member will be using the bathroom to apply makeup – or to shave – you may want to install recessed lighting, which will add light to the entire bathroom. You may also prefer to install a dimmer switch for your bathroom lighting. The dimmer switch will allow to raise and lower the lighting depending on the mood you're in – bright for makeup mode, dim for relaxation mode.

Modernized Toilets

If you're tired of looking at the same old toilet, you might want to upgrade to a new model. Not only can you get one that's' going to save you money on water usage, you can also get one that's going to modernize the look of your bathroom, especially if you choose a wall-mount toilet. A water-saving toilet will use about 20% less water than standard toilets. Before you choose a new toilet, head to a bathroom and kitchen showroom and take a look at the options that are available to you.

If it's time to give your bathroom a whole new look, don't forget to talk to your contractor about incorporating the suggestions provided above into your plans. Contact a business, such as the Fixture Shop, for more information.

Expanding Families Means Expanding Homes: Addition Building 101

When my wife and I found out we were expecting a baby, I knew that our small starter home wasn't going to be big enough for us to raise a family. We loved the house and the neighborhood though, so we didn't want to move. That's when I decided to just build an addition. From planning to construction, the process was kind of intimidating. I didn't know what to expect along the way, and that made it more difficult. I created this site to detail our experience with the construction of the addition. I hope it helps you to prepare for your next home construction project.
